Amazon DSP lets you reach shoppers on and off Amazon using Amazon’s own shopping signals. Used well, it recovers lost shoppers and grows new-to-brand customers. Used badly, it spends a lot to buy sales you would have had anyway.
From our testing: High-intent buyer audiences built in Amazon Marketing Cloud returned around 9x ROAS and ad engagers around 8x, without more spend. What we learned from 100+ AMC audiences.
What is Amazon DSP?
Amazon DSP (demand-side platform) is Amazon’s programmatic advertising tool for buying display, video and streaming TV ads on and off Amazon, targeted with Amazon’s shopping and audience data. It is used mainly for retargeting, audience building and brand awareness.
When DSP makes sense
DSP usually pays once Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands are well run and you have enough traffic to retarget. It is strongest for product-page retargeting, re-engaging lapsed buyers of replenishable products, defending against competitor conquesting, and upper-funnel video or streaming TV for brands ready to build awareness.
How we judge it
DSP reporting tends to credit itself generously. We look at new-to-brand share, total account sales trend and holdout tests where budgets allow, so you can see what is actually incremental.
What we do
- DSP readiness check against your current ads and traffic
- Retargeting of product-page viewers, cart abandoners and lapsed buyers
- Lookalike and in-market audience prospecting
- Competitor conquesting and brand defence
- Display, online video and streaming TV placements
- Creative briefs sized for each placement
- Reporting on new-to-brand, frequency and incrementality
How we start
1. Readiness
Confirm DSP is the next best use of budget for your account.
2. Retarget first
Launch the lowest-risk, highest-intent audiences.
3. Expand carefully
Add prospecting and video only once retargeting is proven.
