FBA sellers routinely lose money to inventory that goes missing in transit, gets damaged in a warehouse, or is mis-measured, and a lot of it is never claimed.
Worth knowing: Amazon now reimburses inventory lost or damaged in its warehouses at manufacturing cost, and most claims must be filed within roughly 60 days, so we reconcile every month. What the reimbursement change actually cost.
What are Amazon FBA reimbursements?
FBA reimbursements are payments Amazon owes sellers when inventory is lost or damaged in its warehouses, customer returns are not received back, or fees are overcharged. Amazon pays many automatically, but plenty are missed and must be claimed within Amazon’s time limits, with evidence.
Unclaimed money is the cheapest growth there is
Reimbursement rules have tightened. Claim windows are shorter than they were, and for some pre-order losses Amazon now values inventory using its own cost estimate rather than your selling price. If your cost data is missing or wrong, Amazon substitutes its own figure, and it is often lower than what you paid.
That makes monthly reconciliation the minimum, not an annual clean-up. Check Seller Central for the current policy before relying on any specific window.
