Can I manage my Amazon Seller Central and ads with Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes, partly. Amazon's Selling Partner plugin, announced September 23, 2026, is in US beta for Claude and handles inventory, pricing, listings and analytics. The Amazon Ads MCP server, in open beta since February 2, 2026, lets Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini manage campaigns. Start in recommend-only mode and approve every action.

Key takeaways

  • Amazon's Selling Partner plugin, announced at Accelerate on September 23, 2026, lets US sellers manage inventory, pricing, listings and analytics through Claude in beta.
  • The Amazon Ads MCP server has been in open beta since February 2, 2026 and requires Amazon Ads API credentials.
  • The plugin does not see cost of goods, freight, duties or VAT, so it cannot judge profit unless you give it that data.
  • Read-only reporting and monitoring are safe to delegate; pricing, budgets, deletions and appeals need a human decision.
  • Start every workflow in recommend-only mode and review the audit trail weekly.

Yes, as of October 2026 you can manage parts of your Amazon business from Claude. Amazon’s Selling Partner plugin, announced at Accelerate on September 23, 2026, is in US beta for Claude and lets you check inventory, adjust prices, edit listings and pull sales analytics from a chat, and the Amazon Ads MCP server, in open beta since February 2, 2026, lets Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini create and report on campaigns.

Both are real and both are useful. Neither should be given free rein over your account on day one. Here is what each one does, what we would hand to an AI agent, and the guardrails we use.

What did Amazon announce at Accelerate 2026?

At Accelerate, Amazon opened its Seller Assistant to outside AI agents through a Selling Partner plugin. According to coverage from AI Weekly (citing GeekWire) and The Next Web:

  • The plugin lets sellers manage inventory, prices, listings and analytics without going into Seller Central.
  • It is in beta in Claude for US stores, and live in Amazon Quick, Amazon’s own workplace assistant. International expansion is planned, with no date given.
  • Amazon says a seller can connect it to Claude in about 60 seconds without writing code.
  • Workflows can run in the background, for example flagging a rating drop on a best seller or reacting when a competitor changes price, even when you are not logged in.
  • Sellers choose per workflow between recommend-only and action modes, approve actions before they run, and get an audit trail of everything the assistant does.
  • Amazon is giving primary account holders a free 12-month Quick Plus subscription, with two co-worker seats, for sign-ups through December 31, 2026.

Amazon also says about 90% of selling partners already use third-party AI tools. Mary Beth Westmoreland, an Amazon VP, summed up the intent: “Our vision was that they would never have to log into Seller Central. We would just bring it to them.”

One limit matters a lot. NovaData’s write-up of the launch says the plugin reads listings, inventory and sales, but not your cost of goods, freight, duties or VAT. It can tell you what sold. It cannot tell you what you made unless you give it that data from elsewhere.

What is the Amazon Ads MCP server?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way for AI assistants to call outside tools. Amazon Ads’ announcement describes its MCP server as a translation layer: you type a plain-language request, and it turns that into Amazon Ads API calls.

As of the February 2, 2026 open beta:

  • It works with Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and custom-built agents.
  • It covers campaign creation, updates and deletion, performance and reporting queries, account settings, billing data, and expanding campaigns to other countries, including an end-to-end Sponsored Products campaign builder.
  • It is available across many marketplaces, including the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
  • Access is for Amazon Ads partners with active API credentials. In practice that means agencies, tool providers and larger advertisers that already use the Ads API, not every seller with a Seller Central login.

What is safe to hand to an AI agent, and what is not?

This is the question that matters. Our split, based on what can go wrong and how fast:

TaskHand to the agent?Why
Sales, inventory and ad performance summariesYesRead-only. Worst case is a wrong summary you can check.
Search term report mining and negative keyword suggestionsYes, as recommendationsSaves hours. A human approves before anything is added.
Restock alerts and rating-drop alertsYesMonitoring is where background workflows shine.
Listing copy draftsDraft onlyCompliance claims, restricted terms and brand voice need a human read.
Bid changes within set limitsWith approval and capsSmall, reversible, but they add up quickly.
Price changesWith approval, never automatic at firstOne wrong decimal or a price war with a competitor’s bot can wipe out margin.
New campaigns and budget increasesHuman decisionThis is spending money. An agent can build the draft.
Deleting campaigns, editing billingNeverHard to reverse and rarely urgent.
Account health responses and appealsNeverWording in an appeal can decide whether an account comes back.

We have written about the cost of loose automation before, in we automated Amazon PPC and it nearly emptied the bank account. AI agents are faster and more capable than rule-based automation, which makes guardrails more important, not less.

What guardrails should I set before connecting Claude?

Treat the first month as a trial. Here is the setup we would use.

  1. Start in recommend-only mode for every workflow. Switch a single workflow to action mode only after it has made good recommendations for a few weeks.
  2. Limit data access to what the task needs. Amazon says sellers choose which data categories the plugin can see. Use that.
  3. Write your rules down before you prompt. Price floors and ceilings per SKU, maximum bid change per day, maximum daily budget. Put them in the instructions you give the assistant and check that it follows them.
  4. Read the approval, not just the button. Anthropic’s Eric Burns said at launch that sellers accept Seller Assistant’s recommendations more than 90% of the time. That is either a sign of good recommendations or a sign that people click approve without reading. Make sure it is the first.
  5. Review the audit trail weekly. Check what changed, who approved it, and what happened to sales and spend afterward.
  6. Give it your costs, or do not ask it about profit. Without COGS and fees it can only optimize revenue, and revenue is the wrong target for most decisions.
  7. For the Ads MCP, start read-only. Pull reports and ask questions before you let it create or change anything.
  8. Keep one person accountable. An agent cannot own a bad Q4 decision. Someone on your team has to.

Will this replace Seller Central and your PPC tools?

Not yet. Both products are in beta, the Claude plugin is US-only, and the Ads MCP server needs API credentials most small sellers do not have. Seller Central is still where policy notices, account health and many settings live.

What changes is the daily routine. A lot of the pulling, filtering and summarizing that eats an operator’s morning can now happen in a chat. The judgment about what to do with it does not move. We go into what that means for agencies, including ours, in will AI replace your Amazon agency.

What we would do this week

  1. If you are a US seller, connect the plugin to Claude in recommend-only mode and ask it three questions you already know the answers to. Check whether it gets them right.
  2. Claim the free Quick Plus year if your team will use it. The offer runs through December 31, 2026.
  3. Write your guardrails file: price floors, bid caps, budget caps, and a list of actions that always need a human.
  4. Ask your PPC tool provider or agency whether they use the Ads MCP server and what approval steps they have built on top of it.
  5. Do not switch anything to action mode before Prime Big Deal Days or Black Friday. Peak weeks are the worst time to discover how an agent behaves.

If you would like a second set of eyes on what to automate in your account, our account management team does this daily, and a free account audit is a reasonable place to start.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to code to connect Claude to Seller Central?

No. Amazon says a seller can connect the Selling Partner plugin to Claude in about 60 seconds without writing code. The Ads MCP server is different: it needs Amazon Ads API credentials, so it is mainly used by agencies, tool providers and larger advertisers that already have API access.

Is the Claude plugin available outside the US?

Not yet. As of October 2026 the Selling Partner plugin is in beta in Claude for US stores only, and Amazon says international expansion is planned without giving a date. The Ads MCP server is broader, listing marketplaces including the UK, Canada, Germany, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

What is the free Amazon Quick Plus offer?

Amazon is giving primary account holders a free 12-month Amazon Quick Plus subscription, including two co-worker seats, for sign-ups through December 31, 2026. Quick is Amazon's own workplace assistant, where the Selling Partner plugin is already live rather than in beta. Check the terms in Seller Central before signing up.

Can the agent change prices while I am logged out?

It can run background workflows while you are logged out, such as reacting to a competitor's price change. Sellers choose per workflow between recommend-only and action modes and approve actions before they run. We recommend keeping pricing in recommend-only mode until the agent has a track record.
