Can I still put a review card in my TikTok Shop package, and what is the minimum shelf life?
No. TikTok Shop's US packing rules, published September 3, 2026, ban any message or insert designed to get positive reviews, including polite thank-you asks. Since June 5, 2026, dietary supplements and beauty and personal care topicals must have at least 365 days of shelf life remaining at delivery.
Key takeaways
- TikTok Shop published ten banned packing practices for US orders on September 3, 2026, including review-incentive inserts and shipping from other retailers.
- No enforcement start date was given beyond the September 3, 2026 publication date, so treat the rules as in force now.
- Since June 5, 2026, supplements and beauty topicals need at least 365 days of shelf life left at delivery, and medical devices need 730 days.
- Beauty products more than 3 years old cannot be sold on TikTok Shop, whatever the printed expiration date says.
- Expiration violations can mean Account Health Rating deductions, listing removal, lost selling access and customer refunds.
No, you can no longer put a review card in a TikTok Shop US package. On September 3, 2026, TikTok Shop published ten banned packing practices that include any message or insert designed to get positive reviews, and since June 5, 2026, supplements and beauty topicals must have at least 365 days of shelf life left when they reach the customer.
Both rules feed into the Account Health Rating, so they are not just warehouse details. Below is what changed, what it means for the products Amazon brands most often bring to TikTok Shop, and the checklist we would run before Black Friday stock ships.
What are the 10 banned packing practices?
PPC Land’s breakdown of the policy lists them as follows. The policy applies to US orders.
- Buying from another retailer and having that retailer ship directly to your customer
- Including products the customer did not buy
- Messages that request or incentivize positive reviews
- Any inserts, materials or products intended to draw positive reviews
- Unauthorized marketing materials, including pamphlets, display materials, price tags and irrelevant stickers
- Loose fill such as Styrofoam peanuts where US requirements prohibit it
- Bundling several cartons together with tape or straps in a way that creates handling or scanning risk
- Large staple pins and nylon fiber tape that create safety hazards
- Selling pesticides in non-original packaging
- Non-corrugated outer packaging for hazardous materials
Items 1 to 5 are the ones that catch brands. Item 1 ends retail arbitrage-style dropshipping on the platform. Items 3 to 5 end the insert habits many sellers brought over from their own websites.
Can I still include a thank-you card or QR code?
A plain review request is out. Relevant Audience’s report on the rules says the ban covers both the polite “please leave us a review” card and the discount-for-review offer, with no exception for softly worded gratitude.
What about a thank-you card with no review ask, or a QR code to your website? Neither source we reviewed addresses those directly. Item 5 bans “unauthorized marketing materials,” and PPC Land reads the rule as having no carve-out for any insert category. Our view: until TikTok says otherwise in Seller Center, treat any printed insert that is not the product, its required documentation or its required labeling as a risk. A card is not worth a deduction on your health score.
Timing matters too. Relevant Audience notes that no enforcement start date was given beyond the September 3 publication date. So assume it is in force now, including for stock already packed.
TikTok also set packaging standards by category. PPC Land’s summary lists six standard item types with a required number of packaging controls, from all seven controls for spillable items down to one for non-breakable items, plus separate rules for bulky items over 10kg. PPC Land itself flagged that the bulky-item thresholds needed US validation, so check the exact requirements for your category in Seller Center rather than working from a summary.
If you are coming from Amazon, the logic will feel familiar. Amazon has long restricted review solicitation, and we covered the only two sanctioned ways to get Amazon reviews in an earlier post. TikTok has now closed the same door through packaging.
What is the minimum shelf life on TikTok Shop?
PPC Land’s summary of the expiration-date policy, effective June 5, 2026, sets minimum remaining shelf life at delivery:
| Category | Minimum days left at delivery |
|---|---|
| Snacks | 90 |
| Instant food, pet food and treats | 180 |
| Shelf-stable milk and dairy, pantry essentials, beverages, tea, powders | 270 |
| Dietary supplements (human and animal) | 365 |
| Personal care with drug labeling | 365 |
| Beauty and personal care topicals | 365 |
| Medical devices | 730 |
Medical devices need the longest window, 730 days. For everyone, “at delivery” is the phrase that bites. The clock is measured when the parcel reaches the customer, not when it leaves your warehouse or arrives at a Fulfilled by TikTok site.
Beauty has two extra rules. Products more than 3 years old cannot be sold, whatever the printed expiration date says. And if remaining shelf life is under 365 days, you must disclose it before purchase.
Labeling rules matter as much as the dates:
- Accepted formats are “month, date, year” or “month and year.” Medical devices must use YYYY-MM-DD only.
- The date cannot cover ingredients, drug facts or manufacturer details.
- Multi-packs need the date on the outer packaging and on each item inside.
- Lot numbers cannot replace an expiration date.
- Stickering over the manufacturer’s printed date counts as mislabeling.
For FBT, food products must be lot-controlled, and that extends to anything shipped alongside food.
How do these rules affect Account Health Rating?
PPC Land lists four enforcement actions for expiration violations: deducting points from your Account Health Rating, removing listings, revoking selling access and issuing customer refunds. Packing violations fall under the fulfillment and after-sale conduct category of the same rating.
That matters because of the thresholds. Fall below 150 points and new listings and campaigns are blocked, and Countdown Bidding requires a rating above 150. We explain the full scale in our Account Health Rating guide. The short version: every shop starts at 200, so there is not much room.
A worked example: when does a supplement batch stop being sellable?
Hypothetical numbers, to show the arithmetic.
You make a supplement with a 24-month expiry and produce a batch on January 15, 2026. It expires January 15, 2028. To arrive with 365 days left, it must be delivered by January 15, 2027.
Now subtract the time in the pipe. Say you allow 10 days from order to delivery as a buffer. The last safe order date for that batch on TikTok Shop is around January 5, 2027. Anything left after that is not sellable on TikTok Shop, even though it has a year of life left.
Now a beauty serum produced in March 2024 with a 36-month printed expiry. In March 2027 it turns 3 years old and becomes unsellable regardless of the printed date. Before that, once remaining life drops under 365 days, which happens in March 2026 for a 36-month expiry, it can only be sold with a disclosure before purchase. That batch already needs disclosure today.
The practical lesson: for supplement and beauty brands, your TikTok Shop sell-through window is shorter than your Amazon one. Size your Q4 TikTok inventory to what you can sell before the cutoff, and route older batches to channels with different rules. Confirm each channel’s rules rather than assuming they match.
What we'd do this week: the pre-Q4 checklist
Run this before any Black Friday stock leaves your warehouse or goes into FBT.
Packaging
1. Pull one packed order from every SKU and open it. List every item in the box.
2. Remove all review cards, review QR codes, discount-for-review offers and promotional pamphlets.
3. Decide on plain thank-you cards and website QR codes. Our default is to remove them until Seller Center confirms they are allowed.
4. Check fill and tape. No loose peanuts where prohibited, no strapped multi-carton bundles, no large staples or nylon fiber tape.
5. Confirm no order is fulfilled by buying from another retailer.
6. Check your category’s packaging controls in Seller Center, especially for liquids and fragile items.
Shelf life
7. List every batch by SKU with its expiration date and, for beauty, its manufacture date.
8. For each batch, calculate the last date it can be delivered with the required days left (365 for supplements and beauty), then subtract your order-to-delivery buffer.
9. Flag beauty batches approaching 3 years old, and any with under 365 days left that need disclosure.
10. Check labels: correct date format, date visible on outer and inner packs, not covering ingredients or drug facts, no stickers over original dates.
11. Tell your 3PL or FBT contact which batches are TikTok-eligible, and ask how they pick (first-expiry-first-out or not).
Creators
12. Make sure creator samples come from in-date batches. A creator holding a nearly expired sample on camera is its own problem.
If you want help building the batch tracker or auditing a packed order, our TikTok Shop management team does this as part of Q4 prep. All rules are as of October 2026; confirm them in Seller Center before acting, since both policies are new and TikTok may update them.

Frequently asked questions
Can I put a QR code to my website in a TikTok Shop order?
The sources we reviewed do not address QR codes directly. The rules ban unauthorized marketing materials such as pamphlets, display materials, price tags and irrelevant stickers, and PPC Land reads the ban as having no carve-out for any insert category. Our default is to leave it out until Seller Center confirms it is allowed.
Is shelf life measured when stock ships or when the customer receives it?
At delivery. TikTok's expiration policy sets minimum remaining shelf life when the parcel reaches the customer, so transit and warehouse time count against you. Build an order-to-delivery buffer into your sell-by date for each batch, especially for supplements and beauty with a 365-day minimum.
How should expiration dates be printed for TikTok Shop?
Use month, date and year, or month and year. Medical devices must use YYYY-MM-DD only. The date cannot cover ingredients, drug facts or manufacturer details, multi-packs need dates on the outer pack and each item, lot numbers cannot replace dates, and stickering over the printed date counts as mislabeling.
Does Fulfilled by TikTok have extra rules for food?
Yes. PPC Land reports that food products sent to Fulfilled by TikTok must be lot-controlled for batch tracking, and the requirement extends to any items shipped alongside food. FBT also has its own product packaging policy, so check it in Seller Center before sending Q4 inventory.
